boxing :D

Recently, I’ve really gotten into the whole contouring trend and I’ve realised that I like using powder contours more than cream ones. So seeing a $6 dollar contour palette that had four shades in it really made my heart beat a little faster. So I bought it cause I realized that if the palette didn’t work out it really wouldn’t set me back that much. I can safely say that I don’t regret buying this palette because out of the four shades I like 2 of them (the darker contour ones). So It’s like I paid $6 for two contour powders which isn’t terrible, but the quality of these powders is still not amazing.

duo fibered

I also bought the e.l.f contouring brush because I liked how dense it looked and the shape of the brush called out to me. This purchase gives me no regrets, because the shortness of the brush bristles allows you to really buff product into your face and the shape of the brush gives you a very clean contour line. The only reason I gave the brush a ⅘ is because it looks

slightly cheap but it was only $6 and it works really well so it’s a great brush for beginners. Also the brush is duo fibered which I really like because I like seeing when my brushes are dirty.

sleek decently sized

Back to the contour palette I give it a ✿✿✿❀❀

Colors: There is a off-white highlighting shade that looks semi shimmery in the pan but when swatched just kind of looks straight up like white matte powder.

There is a light beige powder that isn’t a contour color and doesn’t really fit my skin tone so I can’t use it as a setting powder either.

The lighter contour shade slightly on the orangey side so it gives off more of a bronzed effect.

The darker contour shade looks like a chocolate brown that has a hint of a red undertone.

Pigmentation: These powders are not very pigmented which make them good for beginners because you can build them up but when you’re in a rush and don’t want to take the time to build up your contour it’s a little annoying. The two lighter shades are kind of hard to build up and you really need to work hard in order to get a good visible layer on, and even then it’s a little patchy and it looks really chalky.

The two darker shades are a little better but I would definitely recommend using a super dense, non-fluffy brush with them in order to get the best pigmentation out of them.

fall out :(

Texture: The texture of the powders is definitely not high end. The light shades are super duper chalky, and all four shades cause quite a bit of fall out. The pans feel like hard powder (takes some effort to get that color on your brush) but when you put a brush into them there is a ton of kick up and like the powder breaks up into these little balls on the surface on the pans. So, really if you already have some good contour palettes (kat von D, too cool for school) I would not go for this e.l.f one.

Application: USe a dense non-fluffy brush with this palette and maybe use a cream contour under it first.

Tip: brush off the fall out with a super light fluffy brush in order to make sure that the product doesn’t ruin your base makeup.

Packaging: E.l.f is stepping up their packaging game, the case is sleek, slim, and black and slightly reminds me of Nars packaging. The pans look like you can pop them out and I think you can, but I tried and I’m really weak and afraid of breaking the case so I havn’t been able to. This would be a good travel palette but the quality is meh so maybe just for beginners. There is also a really nicely sized mirror, which makes the palette slightly better.

nicely shaped for good detailing :D

Final thoughts: Is this palette worth buying? Not if you’re an experienced makeup fanatic, maybe if you’re a beginner and you don’t want to splurge on a contour palette. But if you really like the look of contouring I would recommend going for a better palette.

On the other hand I would definitely purchase the contouring brush because for $6 it’s a really good useful brush.
